I was late to the party, when it comes to skiing. At 55 & only skied a couple of times when I was a lot younger. Never been on holiday on my own before, let alone a ski trip.
I was recommended Single Sport. I thought I would give it a go. It was Jan 24 at La Rosiere. I landed in Geneva & thought, what the hell have I done. I’m going to be on my own all week, no one is going to want to talk to me as I can’t ski, they are all going to be better & wonder why I’m there. I was in group 1, I was the only one from Single Sport, so thought I’d be eating on my own all week. How wrong I was. Everyone is so welcoming, I soon made friends. The hotel was fabulous, food great & drinks flowing.
I booked March the same year at La Plagne. Although not as new as La Rosiere, food was still great & the outside terrace at lunchtime, with a DJ, live music & food being served, made up for it.
Still in group one. I hadn’t progressed. This was down to my own fear of falling & a serious injury. A few familiar faces greeted me in the hotel & another fantastic week was had.
Christmas 24, back to La Plagne. I’d had a few lessons at a snow dome, I moved up to 2b. I was in my element, a fun group & a very young instructor. He brought us all on & I was more confident. My style was all over the place, but I was having fun & was bitten by the ski bug.
Jan 25, La Rosiere. Group 2b & 2a were joined together, our instructor was fantastic. She brought us all on in our abilities & I was progressing & our group had loads of fun. I was ok on blue runs, to be surprised she had taken us on a red without telling us until we were half way down the run! The week was over too quickly. I made more ski friends who are so encouraging & wanted me to progress in my skiing ability. I felt I was part of the Single Sport family.
I can’t thank Ruth enough for the hard work she puts in, to make sure everyone is having a great time & feels included.
Really looking forward to Christmas at La Plagne.
