If your idea of a perfect holiday involves warm seas, sunshine, sailing, water skiing, cycling, good food and a bunch of like-minded people to enjoy it all with, then Lemnos certainly delivered!

This was another fantastic Singlesports holiday, and one of those trips where the days seemed to develop a life of their own. Breakfast became the daily planning meeting — usually accompanied by plenty of coffee and opinions about what everyone should do that day. By dinner, we were back together comparing notes, swapping stories and discovering who had actually managed to do what they said they were going to do that morning!

During the day, small groups naturally formed around shared interests. Some headed off for walks, others went cycling, while others were perfectly happy to undertake the important task of finding a good restaurant for lunch. There was always someone keen to join you, whether you fancied an energetic day out or something considerably more relaxing.

Personally, I had a brilliant time wakeboarding, sailing and exploring the island by bicycle. And the sea? Absolutely gorgeous. Warm enough to make getting in easy — and getting out considerably more difficult!

A Greek island with plenty of character

Lemnos is the eighth-largest island in Greece, sitting in the northern Aegean Sea. Unlike some of its mountainous Greek neighbours, Lemnos has a distinctive landscape of rolling plains and volcanic terrain, giving it a wonderfully open and unspoilt feel.

It also has plenty of history and mythology tucked away behind the beaches and sunshine, along with a strong culinary tradition. Although, after a day of activities, our main interest in Greek culinary traditions was making sure we didn’t miss dinner!

And what dinners they were. The restaurant served delicious suppers with a fantastic variety of salads, accompanied by a BBQ every evening. Quite frankly, after a day on the water or exploring by bike, the prospect of dinner was often an important part of the day’s itinerary.

Evenings were just as sociable

The fun didn’t stop when the sun went down. The resort laid on evening entertainment, but being part of a Singlesports group meant we rarely had to wonder who to go with.

We joined together for quizzes, dancing and wine tasting — activities that are considerably more entertaining when you’re surrounded by people you’ve spent the day getting to know. And, of course, there was the traditional prize giving on our final night, when certain people discovered that their holiday achievements had not gone unnoticed!

New faces, new friendships

One of the nicest things about this holiday was the number of people joining Singlesports for the first time. They quickly discovered what regular guests already know: travelling solo doesn’t mean spending your holiday alone.

There’s something reassuring about arriving somewhere knowing that there will be other people who are also keen to get out, try things, explore and have a good time. You can do your own thing when you want to, but there’s always someone around to join you for an activity, lunch, a drink or an evening out.

And judging by the number of new guests who have already signed up for winter skiing and next spring’s beach holiday, it seems Lemnos may have created a few Singlesports converts!

Another great holiday, another great group — and plenty of sunshine, sea, food and stories to take home.
